Beers of the Week is something new we’re going to do on Beer O’Clock Australia to give you a bit of an insight behind the curtain. Each week I’m going to post three beers (this week it had to be four!) that tickled my fancy over the last week or so, whether they be the best beers or simply beers that intrigued me. Hope you enjoy the new segment!

Akasha Double Hazy

I’m not a fan of the new look Akasha branding, but what I am a fan of is the liquid they put inside those cans! This Double Hazy clocks in at 8% & is packed full of Mosaic hops; it shows too! There’s tonnes of tropical fruit notes, a touch of bitterness & no hint of the ABV!

Hawkers Bourbon Barrel Aged Barleywine (2016)

One of the few positives of the Melbourne lockdown has been my determination to try & make a little dent in my cellar. This Hawkers is tasting superb now! There’s the loads of caramel you’d expect for the style, some dark fruit I assume from oxidation, plenty of vanilla from the barrel. It’s got less carb than the last one of these I had in 2017, but is drinking beautifully smooth.

King River Belgian Tripel

I don’t want this to turn into a King River love in; however they’re just producing some of the best stuff I’ve been drinking recently! Not many Australian brewers brew a Tripel, let alone specialise in them! For King River’s hundredth brew they decided to chuck their Tripel in Aligote barrels. The resulting Tripel is packed with candi sugar, has warming alcohol, pear & barrel. It’s just superb!

Mother Earth Boo Koo

I very rarely drink International IPAs anymore, however Lizzie included this in a little beer pack for our anniversary. I’d never heard of these guys out of Vista, California but this is a cracking West Coast IPA. It’s packed full of resinous pine, citrus & tropical fruit flavours alongside a good amount of bitterness. I would highly recommend seeking one out whilst they’re still fresh.

Three weeks into Beers of the Week & I think it’s working pretty well. I’d still love your thoughts on this segment & what else you’d like to see on the blog in the coming month once the Year of the Local comes to an end. Please send any feedback or thoughts to angus@beeroclockaustralia.com. Cheers!

Remember it’s always Beer O’Clock somewhere in the world!
